Saudi Aramco is planning to set up six power generation facilities at an estimated total cost of $1bn to meet its growing electricity needs, Meed has reported. The move is prompted by concerns over capacity of Saudi Electricity Co to provide the required level of power supply. Three of the projects could be expansions of existing plants owned by Aramco's current power supplier, the Tihama Power Generation Co, a joint venture of the UK's International Power and Saudi Oger, the report said.
